Davis & Elkins Too Much For Battlers at Home

Alderson Broaddus Women's Basketball team lost at home to conference foe Davis & Elkins 82-70. The Battlers would only shoot 27.8% from behind the arc and 54.2% from the free throw line.

The two teams would exchange buckets throughout the 1st Quarter. Four different Battlers would find the scoring column early on, led by a pair of three pointers by Cassandra Smith and Hannah Taylor. The Senators would use 16 points in the paint to take a 20-15 lead at the end of the quarter.

Davis & Elkins extended their lead to seven but a 10-2 run right before the under-5 media timeout in the 2nd Quarter would give the Battlers their first lead since the opening minutes of the game. D&E would go on their own 11-4 run and eventually take a nine point at the half. Iyahnna Williams led the Battlers in the first half with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

A steady Senator attack would be too much for the Battlers coming out of the half. The Battlers got as close as seven once again thanks to consecutive Hannah Taylor scores. From there, AB couldn't get any closer. D&E stretched their lead to 13 multiple times in the quarter, closing out the 3rd Quarter up 59-46.

The Battlers would have their strongest quarter in the closing quarter, but it was too late. AB scored 18 of their 24 fourth quarter points in the paint. As soon as the Battlers would inch closer to cutting the lead to single digits, the Senators would go on their own little runs. Even with 10 second chance points in the quarter, it wouldn't be enough. A layup by Davis & Elkins' Angel Broadus would close out the win for the Senators.

Iyahnna Williams picked up her forth double-double of the season, finishing with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore Londaisha Smith also contributed 17 points in the loss. Hannah Taylor reached double figures in scoring for the eighth time this season with 14 points.
