10 Place in Top-10 During Two-Day Meet at VMI

 The Alderson Broaddus University men's and women's track & field teams placed 10 in the top-10 at the VMI Winter Relays this past weekend. 

At the VMI Winter Relays, Shelton Bass had the top place for the Battlers, placing fourth in the 400 running 50.33. Nathan Jacobs also competed in the 400 and placed ninth in his first showing of the year. Devon Napier set a new indoor PR in the 200, just missing the school record in the event that was set back in 2017, he ran 22.41 and placed seventh. In the women's 300, Nykia Fort was one-second away from breaking the school record that was set back in 2016, running a 45.97 and placing ninth. Greysen Gerth placed fifth in pole vault after barely missing a vault at 3.80m (12'5.5). In the women's long jump, Justice Washington had a new PR, and barely missed the finals jumping 4.59m (15'0.75), placing tenth. In the women's 800, Layla James placed tenth running a new season best on 2:26.69. The other top-10 races were the men's and women's distance medley relays, where the women came in second (James, Washington, Trinity Bumbry, Adra Schell), and the men in fifth (Jacobs, Andrew Nephew, Vernon Smith, Alex Cockerham). The women's 4x4 placed 8th, the team was comprised of James, Desiree Knotts, Washington, and Bumbry.

Other top performers for the Battlers were Adra Schell in the 3K, she dropped 20 seconds to running a new PR of 12:12.24. Alex Cockerham also dropped a new PR of 5:04.89 in the mile, a new indoor PR. Trinity Bumbry also had a small PR in the 400, running 64.05.

With two weeks left until the conference championship, the Battlers are shaping up to make a big push at the conference meet. This weekend a small group will be headed to Columbus, OH for the Capital OAC Tune-Up. The meet is expected to start around 11:00 AM est.
